Candi Brahu



Brahu located in Hamlet Jambu Mente, Bejijong Village, District Trowulan, Mojokerto. Right in front of the Historical and Archeological Reserve in East Java which is located on the highway Jombang Mojokerto-contained entrance to the north are a bit cramped but it was paved. Brahu located on the right side of the lane, about 1.8 km from the highway.
There is the argument that Brahu older than the other temples that surround Trowulan. Name Brahu connected thought to have originated from the word 'Wanaru' or 'Warahu', the name of a sacred building named in the inscription copper 'Alasantan' found approximately 45 meters west side Brahu. The inscription was made in the year 861 Saka or, rather, 9 September 939 AD on the orders of King mpu Sindok Kahuripan. According to the surrounding community, the temple was once served as a cremation kings UB. However, the results of a study of the temple did not show any trace of ash or dead, because temple room is now empty.
Around the temple complex ever discovered other ancient objects, such as a ceremony of metal, jewelry and other objects of gold, and metal statues all of which shows characteristics of Buddhism, thus be concluded that Brahu a Buddhist temple . Although none of the statues of Buddha that were found there, but the style of the building and the rest of the profile base stupa located on the southeast side of the roof of the temple Brahu reinforce the notion that it is a Buddhist temple. Estimated that the temple was founded in the 15th century AD
The temple is facing towards west, laid out the basic rectangle measuring 18 x 22.5 m and the remaining high until now reaches about 20 m. Like most other ancient buildings are found in Trowulan, Brahu also made of red brick. However, unlike other temples, body shape Brahu square indecisive but many angled, blunt and notched. The middle of his body curled into a waist like. The indentation is confirmed by the pattern of bricks on the west wall or front wall of the temple. The roof of the temple is also not shaped prismatic or rectangular compound, but multangular with a flat top.

Foot two tiered temple was built. Lower leg about 2 m tall, has a ladder on the west side, leading to approximately 1 m wide corridor that surrounds the temple. From the first hall there are stairs at about 2 m into the second hall. On top of this second hall stands the temple. On the west side, there is a kind of door opening at a height of about 2 m from the second hall. Perhaps there first ascent of the second corridor to the door at the temple, but this time the ladder no longer exists, making it difficult for visitors to get into the room in the temple. It is said in the room large enough to accommodate about 30 people. In the legs, body and roof of the temple is not found relief ornament or carving. Only the composition of brick on legs, body and roof of the temple walls are arranged so that the image forming geometric patterns and beautiful curves.
Brahu began restoration in 1990 and completed in 1995. According to the surrounding community, not far from the first Brahu there are several other temples, like the Temple Muteran, Gedong, Middle Temple and Temple Gentong, who is now invisible.
